In Silver Surfer Vol. 3 #35, titled "Thanos's Guide to the Galaxy," the story is a key moment leading into the epic "Infinity Gauntlet" storyline.
The plot revolves around the resurrected Thanos, who has been brought back by the cosmic entity Death. Thanos, in his twisted devotion to Death, seeks to "rebalance" the universe by eliminating half of all living beings.
He finds the Silver Surfer and attempts to convince him to join his cause. Thanos takes the Surfer on a tour of the cosmos, showing him various worlds, including Earth, and explaining his grim philosophy. He argues that overpopulation and long lifespans are leading to universal disaster and that his plan is a necessary, logical solution.
