Purchased in London’s Portobello Road from a reputable art dealer, this is an original 19th-century Map of Palestine (Plate No. 9) engraved by noted French cartographer Émile Guy, F.E.G.S., and published by H.H. Hardesty & Co. in the Historical Hand-Atlas Illustrated (1881–1882)
This hand-colored map reflects the height of biblical archaeology in the late 1800s, inspired by Chautauqua “Park of Palestine.” It blends ancient biblical geography with Ottoman-era detail, offering a vivid visual journey through scripture
Framed size approx. 18” x 24” (map ~16” x 22”), presented in a classic walnut-style frame with beveled glass and brass plaque dated 1882. Features bird’s-eye topography, labeled sacred sites, valleys, gates, and historic landmarks
Excellent for age—clean paper, vivid color, no tears or foxing. Frame shows light, authentic patina
Original atlas maps are scarce; Palestine/Jerusalem plates are especially desirable. have maps of Jerusalem and Egypt and will bundle if requested
